Welcome to a new year of competition with the Central Coast Cycling Club. On Tuesday 9th Feb 1999 your club conducted our annual general meeting at the Central Coast Leagues Club. Unfortunately only 7 affiliated members were in attendance representing Road, Track and Mountain Bike aspects of competition. From this motley crew we were able to form new committees as follows:
Road/Track Sub Committee
MTB Sub Committee
Our criterium series is drawing to a close and your road race committee is formulating a program of road racing for the autumn and winter seasons. This new program will be available for disribution to members shortly, however the first race day is scheduled for Sat 17 th April 1999 from 2pm at the intersection of Peats Ridge and Jones Rd Calga.
Members are advised that there will be a Central Division combine for all divisions at Seaham from 1pm Sat l0th April 1999. The first Road Open of the season is the Canberra to Goulburn at 9am Sun 10' Apr 1999 for Mens, A,B,C,D Womens A Grades -Entries should be into the the NSWCF 3 weeks prior to the event.
Previously affiliated members are reminded that subscriptions for the 1999 calendar year are now overdue. Unfortunately, due to insurance provisions, those members who remain unfinancial will not be permitted to compete in any form of competition. Please affiliate now.
Our club presentation night scheduled for Nov 1998 was cancelled due to lack of RSVP's . It has now been decided to conduct this function on Sunday 23rd May 1999, following the Caltex Handicap. The venue is to be advised at later date.
The safety of our members is always of paramount importance and members are reminded that road and racing rules are should be obeyed at all times whilst both training and racing. Members are reminded that only one traffic lane can be used at Calga in order to avoid disruption to traffic and to reduce potential danger to cyclists. Your club has constructed a turning ramp 200m south of the Calga finish to alleviate the necessity to ride against oncoming traffic. Members are likely to be penalised.
I understand that the NSWCF is compiling a new rule book and in due course copies should be available for distribution to all members. Meanwhile , ignorance is no excuse for doing the wrong thing. If you have any doubt about any ruling, seek advise from a committee member who should be able to find the appropriate answer for you.
Members should always be mindful of their own safety and the safety of other cyclists in close proximity. Don't do foolish things through thoughtlessness or agression to endanger others. Remember, we are not competing for world championships or sheep stations.
Whilst your committee has elected not to run any Open Races this year, many opportunities will be available for members to attend opens and the NSWCF's program will be available soon. It is also ?nticipated that your club will organise some trips away to open races and members are encouraged to participate as these are always good fun and a rare chance to bond with club mates.
Our Central Coast Cycling Club Mountain Bike affiliates have structured a full program of competition from 28th March 1999 to 12th Dec 1999. The next scheduled event is Cross Counrty racing from 9am, Sunday 18th April 1999 at Ourimbah State Forest, Yarramalong Rd, Wyong Creek. Call Dave Gibson for full details or call at your local bike shop for a program.
Wishing all Members a successful and safe year of competition.
Regards
Geoff Broadhurst
