So, what can we do to help our handling? Buy a low-slung sports car, or lower our car and lower our centre of gravity (CG). Lower CG means less weight transfer which increases grip. Just watch out that you don't muck up the roll centre, the caster or the camber when you cut those springs - in fact, don't cut the springs, buy replacement springs with the right spring rate to match your shocks (which you'll also change, I'm sure). It may be illegal in your area to cut springs, anyway.

What if you do cut the springs? Shorter springs (ie fewer coils, if you have coils, not torsion bars or leaf springs) mean a stiffer spring. So small low-speed bumps will be more noticeable, for starters, and you may find that the ride is so bad that the car is good only on the smoothest racetrack.

Alternatively, heat the spring and bring the coils closer together, so you get a lower ride height without the stiffening. OK, it costs more, but you don't bounce off the road whenever you hit a bump mid-corner. Better still, buy and fit a set of preformed lower springs, or fit adjustable coil-over shocks. If you can afford it, and it's legal, of course.
