What do you do when a fan site gets too large?
You take it over, of course. At least that's what Barack Obama appears to have done to a hugely popular MySpace fan site. News Corp-owned MySpace simply folded - gave in - and let 'em have control over the URL. Fan sites are common on MySpace - sometimes it's not entirely clear who is running any particular site. It could be a fan, the actual person in question, or a faceless publicity manager. You don't know.
Forbes has an article on what Barack Obama's campaign did and why they did it... an maybe it is inevitable that these 'imposter' sites get brought under some control, or labelled as 'fan-written' rather than 'official'. Ah, the joys of new media.
