The Six Sigma "DMAIC" process methodology
Lean Six Sigma.. can't get enough of this stuff, can you?
The Six Sigma "DMAIC" process methodology measurable and significant improvement to processes that are falling below original specifications. The DMAIC methodology should be employed when a product or process failing to meet customer needs, specifications or just falling short in performance. So what the heck is DMAIC?
DMAIC is an abbreviation - or an acronym if you pronounce it as "Der-may-ick" I guess - for five interconnected phases of the method:
- Project DEFINITION, ie setting the project goals and deliverables
- MEASUREMENT, ie taking measurements to determine current performance
- ANALYSIS and determination (hopefully!) of the root cause(s) of the defects/shortfalls
- IMPROVEMENT of the process by eliminating those aforementioned defects/shortfalls
- CONTROL of future process performance - good luck!!
